Ferromagnetic Insulator to Metal Transition in Non-Centrosymmetric Graphene Nanoribbons

By engineering molecular symmetry, sublattice imbalance, and the hybridization of low-energy zero modes within the GNR unit cell, we show that the balance between kinetic energy and electron–electron interactions can be rationally tuned, giving rise to a transition between a ferromagnetically ordered insulating state and a metallic, nonmagnetic phase within a single, chemically defined nanoribbon platform.
